What I Said I’d Do

She lies there
In her cage, her metal bed
And she cries there
Cause I said I’d be there then

Yes I said I’d be there then

And she sits there
When she finds the strength to think
It’s a good day
The pain is numb, so she can think

And it’s true
It’s what I said I’d do
It’s what I said I’d do
It’s what I said I’d do

The nurse comes in
To check she’s still alive
She had dreams here
But her dreams are dead inside

It’s amazing
That so young and betrayed
She still trusts, and hopes
That one day she’ll feel my embrace

Cause it’s true
It’s what I said I’d do
It’s what I said I’d do
It’s what I said I’d do

And the day comes
When all is quiet there inside
And the nurse comes
And proclaims she’s not alive

And I sit there
Gaze at her innocent face
At least I was here
I was not too late

After all it’s what I said I’d do
Yes, it’s what I said I’d do
It’s what I said I’d do
It’s what I said I’d do

Cause she’s gone now
But we feel so very near
Suppose she’s grown up now
She knows I will always be here

It’s what I said I’d do
It’s what I said I’d do
