A Park Bench (Pt. 1)

On a park bench sat two perfect strangers, each gazing into the water of the pond, and pondering their own individual problems in their own individual way. Problems which they had forced never to occur to them - had pushed away to the backs of their minds, as life had continued. And now, here in this place the silence overpowered this and brought these thoughts over them all at once like a bursting dam. As the waters struck them it brought no pain and no response, but rather a complete lack of it.

They gazed into the water of the pond, only occasionally becoming aware of at what they were gazing.

And as each gazed they became increasingly transfixed by the peacefully rippling water, moving in patterns seemingly random, yet utterly perfect in their own way. They felt peace all over them, a peace that numbed their brain, relaxing them so much that even a movement of their pupil seemed a great effort. That even keeping their eyelids up seemed almost too great.

The violent noise of a car’s horn in the distance broke the spell.

As one became aware of a person to their side they turned. Sensing this recognition the other turned also. For a brief instant the eyes of the other seemed to hypnotise as the water had and their mind felt clean and pure, free of all those thoughts which weighed them down; but becoming self-conscious they quickly looked away, almost startled by the recognition from another.

Bryan stood and walked away, life continuing. The moment each shared forgotten, hardly even acknowledged in the first place for all of its significance.
